Welcome to Drishti Center’s 200 hour Teacher Training site. We are so very excited to be able to offer teacher training certified with Yoga Alliance at our center in San Antonio Tlayacapan, Mexico and we look forward to having you join our intimate group!
We invite you to come with us on this journey of a lifetime where you will immerse yourself in the practice, study and teachings of yoga at the Drishti Center.
You will train with our highly qualified teaching staff and lead instructor Ana Paula Hernandez. A native of this beautiful part of México, Ana studied in Vancouver Canada, with Shakti Mhi at Prana Yoga College in 2002 where she immediately went on to teach full time for several years, she has trained lots of teachers in Chaplala Mexico and conducted several workshops that specialize in Teacher Training in manu international studios, She is so excited to now be in her own Yoga Academy returning to this passion where she will again have the opportunity to train yoga enthusiasts who will go on to share the wisdom and open more doors to this beautiful practice.
While keeping the training group very small and intimate, we hope to attract students from our lakeside communities, nearby Guadalajara, Mexico, the US and Canada and around the world. Our training is designed to prepare graduates to teach for the first time with confidence, to enhance their current teaching or to simply deepen their own personal practice.
We are located in the heart of the quiet lakeside and mountainous village of San Antonio Tlayacapan, Mexico along the shores of Lake Chapala. Here, in a small and intimate study group, you can enjoy the peaceful pace of these small Mexican lakeside communities while still conveniently located just 30 minutes from Guadalajara’s International Airport.
Drishti Center is a RYS200 Yoga Alliance certified school and as such graduating students can register as RYT 200 © (Registered Yoga Teachers) with Yoga Alliance, the international certifying yoga authority. www.yogaalliance.org. Teachers registered with the alliance are authorized to use the initials RYT © after their names.
Drishti Teaching Philosophy
At Drishti, we believe that in order to teach one must develop a deep personal understanding of yoga as a lifestyle. We encourage our students to embrace yoga in this way and it is therefore our goal to train teachers who will share this view with their students.
Students will experience daily instruction and practice in the art, science and philosophy of yoga and will have the opportunity to begin putting this knowledge to practical use quickly and throughout the training.
The Course Outline
The core of this training is daily instruction and practice of meditation, pranayama and asanas. We will learn the integral aspects of yoga teaching:
Yoga Philosophy / Lifestyle / Ethics
Together we will explore the ancient texts, the original teachers, yogic lifestyle choices, and ethical choices and appropriate conduct for yoga teachers.
The complete spectrum of asanas will be explored in depth, including pose adaptations and the use of props. Flows will be practiced and learned to incorporate both the classically, “held” positions in a more energetic or Yin style as well as more traditional Vinyasa type flows. At all times emphasis will be placed on the breath through both movement and stillness. Students will be exposed to a wide range of class types and levels and this will prepare them for a wide range of students and also help them to discover where their true passions lie.
Students will learn the science of breathing: changing the rhythm of the breath, inhalation, retention, and exhalation. Through the practice of many breathing techniques, students will embody the breath as a gift to help practice healing and awareness.
Anatomy / Physiology
Students will learn a functional understanding of the key anatomic components as they relate to Hatha Yoga. Knowledge of these components will be used immediately as we learn different postures, learn to overcome blockages, avoid injuries and communicate with your students so they too will understand the practice at a far deeper level.
In physiology we will be focusing on the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems and their functions in the body. Through a deeper understanding of these functions on the body, we can help students to improve or solve chronic imbalances that contribute to or cause many stress related illnesses in our busy lives. Understanding the connection between stress, our nervous systems and our entire bodies will allow us to help our students to restore physical, mental and spiritual balance in their lives.
Students will review this series of ancient cleansing techniques of that help to remove toxins from the body and prepare us for practice. There are six kriyas: Neti (nasal cleansing), Nauli (abdominal churning), Dhauti (upper digestive tract cleansing), Basti (colon cleansing), Kapalabhati (lung and bronchial tube cleansing) and Tratak (steady gazing). We will review all six kriyas and practice Neti, Nauli, Kapalabhati, and Tratak.
Restorative and Therapeutic Yoga
“Restorative yoga” is a practice that affords an opportunity to restore and rejuvenate the body, mind and spirit. Trainees will experience the practice and learn basics that can be incorporated into more traditional hatha practices. Restorative yoga is the practice of fully letting go through fully supporting the body. In addition, some attention will be given to prepare students to works with specific common physical issues that may present themselves including: back pain, repetitive strain injuries, carpal tunnel, scoliosis, sacroiliac pain, sciatica, and strain due to bad posture or weight issues. Yoga is the perfect practice to promote and enhance healing of these common ailments. However, students must be aware of the precautions and will learn how to give appropriate guidance for a safe practice.
Through practice, observation, assisting and eventually practice teaching, trainees will be exposed to a higher than average degree of practical experience. At Drishti, we believe that once prepared, actual classroom experience is crucial to prepare students to go on and teach immediately. We will work frequently in small groups to teach each other and will have opportunities to teach in real classroom situations. We will build confidence through many opportunities for feedback with instructors and fellow students and will have opportunities to share ideas and receive constructive feedback.
Our Teaching Philosophy
At Drishti Center it is our goal make yoga safe and accessible while opening doors and hearts to a deeper experience of the yoga journey. It doesn’t matter what age you are, or whether you are a beginner or an expert, or inflexible or have an injury. We offer programs for all levels with a highly qualified team of instructors. There is a place for everyone at Drishti Center because we believe everyone deserves to reap the many benefits that yoga and wellness have to offer. We guide our students through an internal journey of self knowledge and well being resulting in healthy minds and bodies, and now for the first time, we are extending this mission to train teachers with this philosophy as their base. We are very excited to offer a 200 hour teacher training that is certified with Yoga Alliance.
Basic Course Objectives – What you can expect…
- You will learn how to create balanced flows for beginners, intermediate and, advanced students. These flows will be balanced and well transitioned and will be based on an understanding of the natural kinesiology of the body, for every contraction there must be an expansion.
- Trainees will learn to teach their students to listen to their bodies and never go beyond their limitations. Safety and balance are very important element of our studio and of this training.
- We emphasize in our training as in our studio that an understanding of Yoga goes far beyond a workout. You will learn to teach from your heart and share with students the spiritual and meditative benefits of their practices by helping them to explore the present moment and have a healthier minds and bodies.
- Students will learn to build flows based on classic Hatha style and we will also explore Yin and Restorative styles of yoga. At Drishti, our classes are never the same and we will work with trainees to learn to build flows designed to work all body parts bringing a natural balance.
- The training will include meditation, chanting and Pranayama breathing techniques.
- The training will take place in our well equipped and contemplative studio and students will experience a wide range of classes and opportunities to observe, assist and practice teach each other as well as community classes.
- In a small group you will experience a rare intimacy and a great deal of personal assistance.
Drishti Center is committed to building a teacher college to offer future follow up training for teachers who wish to continue on with more advanced and specialized certification towards Yoga alliance’s 500 hours certification. In this initial training, students will be exposed to a number of specialized styles in addition to the main classic hatha style. In future, we hope to offer advanced training in Restorative and Yin, Ayurveda, Pranayama, Thai Yoga Massage Hands-on Adjustments and Yoga Nidra to name a few.
Graduation Process and Requirements
Together we will honour the completion of this journey together at a graduation celebration. We will award completion certificates based on following criteria:
- Attendance; To successfully complete the program, a student may not miss more than 5 hours of classroom time. Any missed time will need to be covered off independently by the student.
- Completed assignments and 5 hours of community service.
- The completion of a short written examination and the faculty’s assessment of student’s skills learned. Should additional time be required in any area, we will do our best to provide such attention.
